Two buildings, a church and parochial house without relationship or resonance existed on the site. The form and placement of a third building was challenging, a catalyst. The church not being of architectural merit was characterised formally by its big slate roof. We chose to subvert this traditional roof into a three dimensional faceted form to make our building - slate grey in colour that being the only attribute common to church and house. The third building in slate grey autonomous yet neighbourly forms a space with its neighbours inviting the community into its yellow sunny inside.
